The Carl Brashear Foundation

OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to reach as many people as possible to share the story of Carl Brashear and his incredible achievements.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Carl Brashear Foundation is to use his life as an example of Faith, Strength, Humility, and Dedication.

MISSION STATEMENT: To promote the life of Carl Brashear and to enhance the lives of others.

GOAL: Our goal is to give back to society, especially the veterans, the afflicted, and the youth in the form of presentations and monetary awards. Carl Brashear showed the world that Racism, Illiteracy, Poverty, Physical Disability, and Substance Abuse cannot defeat the Human Spirit.

These were the “Five Hurdles” that he overcame to become one of the most celebrated American Naval Sailors. In today’s world, the “Five Hurdles” are still present and affect every country.

Carl Brashear was pleased with the respect he earned from the United States Navy that he loved. Little did he know that he would be honored with a major Hollywood movie depicting his life (Men of Honor), a 700 foot Navy ship bearing his name (USNS Carl Brashear), a conference center at Joint Base Ft. Story-Little Creek Va., a watch made by the Oris Watch Company of Switzerland, a veteran’s center in his home state of Kentucky, a display in the nation’s top museum in Washington D.C., and many other tributes / honors / awards that have been bestowed upon him.My father is a legend in today’s world by his incredible life story. If it takes me to illustrate his story to the world for the rest of my life, I will continue to do so because I will never want my father to become a myth. He was a real person who lived his life with many ups and downs but was able to keep a smile on his face up to the day he died. I would know because I was there with him when he passed away. He and my mother Junetta were good people, born and raised in rural Kentucky with the hopes of raising a family and living a normal life in this world. Let it be said that their lives were not normal. I love and miss them both.
With God’s love upon us, no dream is impossible!
